Quality Incentive Bonus Overview
The Quality Incentive Bonus is designed to incentivize field, plant, and lab personnel to surpass the requirements of the contract documents—specifically in the areas of ride quality and density. This performance-based compensation aims to reward teams for their efforts to achieve superior results and meet the standards that ultimately benefit the project owner.
Eligibility for the bonus depends on a team’s ability to exceed these requirements to the point of earning incentive payments from MDOT. The incentive payment is calculated after deducting any costs related to rework, corrective grinding, ride quality disincentives, density deductions, or other project-related costs. Once these costs are accounted for, eligible personnel receive 15% of the total incentive payment.
This 15% is divided evenly among all team members whose efforts directly contributed to the project’s quality from start to finish. There is no weighted average, and the bonus is evaluated on a project-specific basis. To be eligible, employees must have worked on the project for at least 50% of the total working days related to the scope of work affecting the ride quality bonus and must still be employed at the time the incentive is paid.
Payment is made after management approval, which ensures that the project’s success and quality standards are fully met before the bonus distribution.
